Donna Howard’s art combines simple storytelling with a visual investigation of negative space. The stories are personal but at the same time perfectly relatable because they are childhood experiences that few escape. From sibling rivalry, bullying or monsters under the bed, Donna rewrites the darker stories through kinder and hopefully wiser eyes. The humorous images along with the titles convey most of the story, but with pattern and color the negative space allows her to joyously inject a little of the emotional anxiety that lies beneath.
