Julie Sahlins

Watercolor painting Looking into a forest of thin trees They are more shadows than defined trees they cast shadows on an orange forest floor and while they do not appear to have leaves all the space around them is green as if the very sky is a forest

Sunlight Through the Trees, Early Fall

Julie has loved art all her life.. As a child she enjoyed drawing on the white plaster walls of her home with a black pencil.  She loved the smell of new boxes of crayons, and her favorite colors were magenta, gold, silver and copper. She remembers drawing kings and queens with purple velvet robes trimmed with Ermine ( fluffy white shapes with black dashes).
As  a young adult Julie studied painting at Boston’s University. Although she continued to paint as a hobby, her art was somewhat put on hold by a career in the human services.
It is only now, as an older adult that Julie is returning to her first love with renewed energy.
Ms. Sahlins is a member of several local art associations including Newton, Needham, and Cambridge. She is very much inspired by the seasons, and the feelings that natural landscapes evoke. She is still fascinated by colors, and particularly color combinations that “sing”.
Julie lives in Newton with her cat Thomasina.
