Alpha Fofanah
Alpha Fofanah’s work is a continually evolving way of translating his story. As a multidisciplinary artist, he creates from instinct, allowing each piece to take shape before assigning meaning to it. Meaning often emerges after the work is formed, becoming a meditation on reflection, memory, and community. He moved to Boston from Sierra Leone at the young age of ten. Although he was always surrounded by artists growing up, it wasn’t until recently that he began to see art as something he could truly claim as his own. Creating has become a space of calm and self-discovery for him a way to weave together the influences, experiences, and values that shape his life. Much of his early work was influenced by Black culture and women, often depicted in moments that reflect grace, strength, and presence. His work now feels like a place of return to a home, where his experiences are able to rest and take form.
