Artist Statement
Sasha is driven to photograph nature and share her work as a way to inspire
conversation about seeing our environment in new ways. She is focused on photographing The Mystic River Watershed in Massachusetts whichis the most populated watershed in the United States. Creating this work has helped her to innovate a unique way to capture photos of water reflections.

She uses a 90mm macro photography lens and fast shutter speed to freeze the color gradients and one of a kind ripples on the surface of the water. She aims to show unique shapes on the water by using color to help tell a visual story.
Another primary focus of this project is to inspire people to uplift any topic they care about in their community by fusing art and positive change together.

Sasha is involved with the Mystic River Watershed Association as part of this project as a volunteer and artist to help keep pollution out the waterway and promote community projects.

Biography
Sasha Knittel is a Burlington, MA lens based artist. She grew up in the Hudson Valley NY area. Being in nature often as a child, and currently in New England inspires her drive to photograph the natural world. Sasha studied photography at SUNY Ulster and has continued her education through Professional Development courses at Griffin Museum of Photography. She has been in group shows at The Kingston Gallery, Danforth Museum, ICA Boston, Cambridge Arts, The Burlington Micro Gallery, Griffin Museum of Photography and on a digital billboard in Lanarca, Cyprus Greece.

She is currently completing a series photographing The Mystic River Watershed titled Dynamic Water. She uses a macro lens, fast shutter speed and flash to create abstract photos of water. Another inspiration for Dynamic Water is for the photos to be a motivator for education. Sasha loves to share information on simple ways to help keep the
Mystic River Watershed healthy by using facts from the Mystic River Watershed Association.

Sasha also donates profits from art sales to Mystic River Watershed Association as part of the project. She volunteers for MRWA by counting herring at the watershed and will be testing water quality as well. MRWA helps to keep the
watershed pollution free. Sasha gave artist talks at The Danforth Museum on Humans and Nature about
this series and ways to get involved with various topics that guests care about. She was selected by MRWA for the Capture the Mystic photo competition. Sasha was publicly honored at Mass Brigham Health at Assembly Row at the
MRWA annual meeting for her photo, which was displayed at the meeting as well.

In 2025-2026 Sasha is continuing this work and will be exploring innovative ways to show her images in large format prints, transparent prints that are backlight, and video installations.

A core value while developing this work is to create it with as little environmental impact as possible by using sustainable printing methods and lighting that is energy efficient.
