Caroline Anne James, fine art & design

Caroline Anne James is a painger based in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She is currently pursuing her degree in the arts at Mount Holyoke College as a Frances Perkins scholar, a program for non-traditional college students. She has shown workwork in various locations around Massachusetts, including the Mosesian Center for the Arts, 50 Arrow Gallery, and arts nonprofit Looky Here.

Caroline began painting and drawing a variet of subjects feverishly as a child, mainly portraits, but discovered her great energy for painting landscapes while in community college, first in charcoal. She adorse the messy and often chaotic process of condesning the lands into marks, lines, and color pairs. Caroline practices her work in all different media including charcoal, pastels, and oil paints but has an affininty for the gouache she used for the series currently showing at J.P. Licks.

Outside of her artistic pursuits, Caroline works part-time at a bakery and loves to spend time exploring the beautiful region of Western Massachusetts. She plans to pursue an MFA in the future in order to teach drawing and painting at the college level.
