When we work together, we spend hours together, not just scooping or making ice cream but also learning about each other. We find out how much more there is to each other aside from our favorite ice cream flavors or how much coffee we need to drink on a morning shift to really get going.

Over the past 5 years, we have had a few employees share that they are studying art in school or create art as a side gig, like Mason Osorio, one of our ice cream makers, and Ian Mills, our manager in JP. Several months ago, Ian realized just how many of his scoopers and supervisors were artists and suggested to to Adele, the Marketing and Community Engagement Manager who runs the artist program for most of our 17 stores, that we put a call out to our full staff, asking who would be interested in showing their work at JP Headquarters. Brilliant!

So we put a call out in our January internal newsletter, asking people to submit their artwork for consideration.

The results were thrilling. Over 10 scoopers, supervisors, ice cream makers, coffee roasters, and drivers submitted their artwork! A couple had to withdraw so now have 9 employees' art hanging in our Jamaica Plain headquarters. One employee had never showed his work anywhere before and had to go out and find their first frame. A couple employees had more work prepped then we could possibly show. The walls are full of drawing, graphic design, abstract art, watercolor, and more.

We plan to put out a second call because we have new employees every month and some folks just couldn't organize their art work in time for the March showing and want to continue celebrating the art already on the walls. We hope to move this art (and add more!) to our Dorchester store later this summer. Hopefully you'll come in for a sweet treat and to see these absolutely stunning pieces!
